Too Good to be True… but it is!

My dad hosted a fun run today for the benefit of three people with cancer (a broker in his company and two relatives of his staff). For P500 registration fee, participants got a t-shirt, breakfast, and health drink, plus they can go home with the registration fee back in their wallets (or more).

For every registered participant, he gives P1,000 to the “pot”, and for each completed oval run of each participant, he gives P50 to the participant and P50 to the “pot”. So, yes, participants can go home with their registration fee back in their wallets (or more). This fun run was a marriage of his generosity and aspiration for good health.

It probably sounded too good to be true for those who they invited for the run, but for those who know my dad, they would have most likely easily believed and responded positively to the invitation.

I remembered the Good News. Some people don’t believe in the Gospel because it sounds too good to be true. Jesus took our place on the cross out of His love for us and gave us so much more. It is a finished work. There’s nothing else to do from our part but believe by faith. Anything beyond that is like saying what Jesus did wasn’t enough.

For by grace you have been saved through faith.
And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,
not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
Ephesians 2:8–9

P.S.
Unfortunately, Pao and I weren’t able to go to the fun run. It’s been quite a long week and I had to rest a “sudden” sprain (?) from the other night, which is already well now as I write this. Thanking my dad for understanding!
