God’s Word Works (even when we don’t feel it)

“As the rain and the snow come down from heaven,
and do not return to it without watering the earth
and making it bud and flourish,
so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,
so is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.”

Isaiah 55:10–11

Writing this on a rainy, early Monday morning with by bible, The Faith Challenge by Bishop Juray Mora, a pecan bar, and an extra hot cup of pumpkin spice latte. 🍂☕️

There’s something steady and comforting about the rain. It falls when we need it, and even when we don’t notice it, the earth drinks it in. Life sprouts quietly after, almost unnoticed at first.

Isaiah paints a picture of God’s Word in the same way. Just as rain has its rhythm, God’s Word has its way.

God’s Word is inherent.

Like the rain, His Word simply is. It does not wait for my mood, my readiness, or my ability to receive it. It exists—living, active, present. Whether or not I see it at work, it is watering the soil of my heart. That truth appeases me on days when I feel spiritually dry or disconnected. His Word is not dependent on me. It simply is, and it gives life.

God’s Word is intentional.

God never speaks aimlessly. Each word is spoken with purpose, carrying life into exactly where He intends it to go. Sometimes, I stumble upon a verse that feels like it was written just for me in that moment. But really, God had already purposed that word long before I opened my bible. His Word is always timely, always directed, always personal.

God’s Word is effectual.

His Word does what He intended for it to do. It never returns empty. What God has spoken will come to pass. Even in seasons when I can’t see the fruit, I can trust that the seed is growing. His promises are not just words on a page or a whisper in the air—they are realities in the making!

Isaiah’s reminder comforts me. God’s Word is not wasted, and definitely so are the times I simply showed up to try to listen to Him or to read the bible even when I don’t feel like it or when it seems I didn’t feel that I had a fresh and stirring moment. Like rain watering the earth, it seeps into places I cannot reach and brings life in ways I may not yet see.

So today I rest in this: His Word is present, His Word is purposeful, and His Word is powerful.

Father, thank You that Your Word is never wasted. Thank You that it’s alive, intentional, and always fruitful. Give me the will to always show up no matter what. May Your Word take root in me, water my soul, and bear fruit in its time. Amen.
