Being a working mom, I often get asked this question, especially this past year while breastfeeding our twins, homeschooling Noah, and giving time to our middle child. The short answer?
First, there is grace from God in every season.
Second, something’s gotta give.
In every season God ushers us into, He provides the grace that enables us to thrive. This grace comes in various forms.
With Brei, the grace for grief was available from the inside-out—God’s word that had been sowed in our hearts from our personal times with God, God’s peace that transcends all understanding, and the people He surrounded us with.
With Noah, God had Pao start up a business which meant leaving his 9–5 and being able to care for Noah. When it was time for him to go back to corporate, God provided us with a trustworthy daycare that met our needs, and He provided budget for that.
With Ethan, God provided us with a helper who became family, and He grew Noah to be a loving kuya who would always look after his brother.
Now with the twins, God had Pao shift from corporate to being a digital creator, and we also have two helpers who have been a great addition to our family. As to homeschooling, we still do it, but not in the same way.
Throughout these years of having young kids and full-time jobs we consider as our God-given vocations, we’ve had to say no to a lot of things. It would be more inspiring if I told you that we said no to prioritize what mattered most, but frankly a lot of it was simply not having the time and energy to say yes.
We receive a lot of “How do you—” questions and I look forward to answering them in succeeding posts. For now, know that the God who gives (and takes away) also gives of Himself to us to get us past challenges and even sufferings.
So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.
