Horror or Honor

There’s that itch to write again for how many days now but I don’t know what to write about. Then I remembered saying in a recent post, “Writing helps me process and remember that which I want to chronicleβ€”life and learnings. Writing helps me remember.” So how was my week and what do I not want to forget?

The other day I started reading Romans again and you know those times when, no matter how many times you’ve read a passage, you read something you feel like you never read before? Or at least that portion didn’t “pop out” the way it does now. This happened as I read through my ESV-NLT bible that was a recent gift from our wedding Ninong and Ninang who didn’t know I really wanted a new bible and I couldn’t decide between ESV and NLT. ?

Romans 1:21,22 ESV starts off, “For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking…” NLT continues, “As a result, their minds became dark and confused. Claiming to be wise, they instead became utter fools.” Then I read in verses 24 and 28 (NLT), “So God abandoned them to do whatever shameful things their hearts desired… Since they thought it foolish to acknowledge God, he abandoned them to their foolish thinking and let them do things that should never be done.”

We can know God but end up dark, confused, foolish, and do all sorts of evil things. To be too stubborn and hard-headed that God abandons? This is horror to me! I never want this to happen to me or my family. But in the same passage I find the solution: to honor God and give thanks to Him. Knowing Him is the start, but honoring Him as God and giving thanks to Him is fuel to my heart and soul. And so, as one of my pastors would say, #inallthingsgivethanks.

Now that I’m a mom, this tells me to teach my son the value of honoring God and being grateful to Him every moment of his life. More so, I am led to be an example of this to him and to keep him in my prayers. Would you say a quick prayer for my family and yours as you read this? I pray that we will all continue to honor God and give Him thanks, no matter what season we’re in.

In somewhat related news, I’m finally back on track with my daily gratitude post on Facebook, and it’s crazy how it’s already day 103 of 365 this year! 2019 seems to be flying by so fast but I realize that when I give each day my all, I don’t really mind how fast days come and go. Jesus did come so that we can live our lives to the full. I’m very grateful that He has sustained and enabled me to be who He has called me to be in this season of my life. May you receive His sustaining and enabling grace and strength today!
